Bendigo Art Gallery has unveiled a major new public artwork by acclaimed weaver Aunty Marilyne Nicholls, which will adorn the façade of its new View Street building. The landmark commission embeds First Nations knowledge, Country and culture into one of regional Australia's most significant cultural redevelopment projects.

Aunty Marilyne's design reflects the cycles and connections between people, generations, Country, plants and waterways, while honouring the relationship between the past and future. It brings together ancestral knowledge, traditional weaving practices and contemporary architectural innovation in a powerful expression of living culture.

Using cutting-edge scanning and moulding technology, Aunty Marilyne's handwoven work has been transformed into a monumental architectural artwork, allowing the intricacy and spirit of her weaving to be realised at a civic scale.

For Bendigo Art Gallery, the commission marks a defining moment in its redevelopment, creating a lasting public statement that celebrates the enduring strength and continuity of First Nations cultural knowledge.
