For the past few weeks, the RISING festival has brought its vivid program of events to Melbourne with exhibitions including The Vinyl Factory: Reverb at ACMI. Described as a “multi-sensory exhibition, a symbiosis between music, art, film and culture” the exhibition was originally produced and staged at 180 Studios in London. It showcases The Vinyl Factory Collection: 20 years of artistic collaboration from the early days of techno and house to contemporary digital art, featuring immersive works by Stan Douglas, William Kentridge, Jeremy Deller, Virgil Abloh and many other incredible musicians and artists.

Earlier this year, JCB was commissioned to deliver the exhibition design in what became a joyful collaboration with the ACMI team, creating an industrial atmosphere and materials framework which references the history of The Vinyl Factory and the science of sound. The strategy creates a dynamic visitor journey through the ebb and flow of contrasting atmospheres, balancing the spatial and acoustic requirements for sonic and visual experiences. The creative use of colour and texture enhances the industrial feel, incorporating recycled materials to reduce the exhibition's carbon footprint.

The exhibition continues until August 31. Head to the Listening Room - an acoustically optimised space where you can select from a curated collection of records for some deep listening, giving you the chance to see local and international artists up close.
