Whitehall Street Footscray comprises 450+ apartments supported by retail and commercial offerings. Located in central Footscray, the rich ‘cultural heart’ of Melbourne’s West, the design facilitates the Assemble pathway to home ownership: Build-to-Rent-to-Own (BTRTO).
The design nurtures genuine community by providing diverse and active amenity offerings that benefit residents, the broader community and project partners. Prioritising pedestrian connections through the precinct, the form is pushed to the street frontages and perimeter creating generous public spaces and linkages. The reinforced edge acts as a physical break between the open public space and noise from rail corridor and traffic.
The material palette responds to early research into Country and references ecology, geology, and the local built heritage. A multicultural suburb of Melbourne within 7km of the CBD, Footscray’s diverse community will continue to grow rapidly with a future focus on education, arts and culture and commerce – making it one of the most desirable locations for affordable homes in Melbourne.
