We're blown away that Gillies Hall has been named Australia's most sustainable multi residential housing for 2020. Announced in a digital gala on 12 November, the student living project was honoured in the Sustainability Awards - Multiple Dwelling category in Architecture and Design’s national awards program.

Championed at every stage by our client Monash University, Gillies Hall is the first large scale building in Australia to achieve Passive House Certification (PHC) and one of very few to combine all-electric, low energy design with a Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) structure.

And the project wears its green credentials proudly. The CLT structure is exposed and celebrated throughout, while it also influenced the interior design and sequesters carbon for the life span of the building.

Gillies Hall places occupant comfort, health and wellbeing as a central focus, providing an ideal indoor environment at an energy and carbon footprint dramatically lower than any similar type building in Australia.

The first major investment for Monash University following the establishment of its Peninsula campus master plan, Gillies Hall supports growing student life on campus and offers a sense of civic pride for the Greater Frankston community.

Congratulations to all involved including our project team, consultants AECOM, Grün Consulting, Atelier Ten, builder Multiplex and of course our clients who had the vision to make sustainable change happen.
