JCB led the master plan for Queen’s College, one of the oldest residences at the University of Melbourne. In addition to heritage landmarks, the 3.3ha campus features a mixture of buildings and landscapes completed since opening 1888.
The masterplan intention was to guide the College in determining future capital projects and provide a framework for the College to confidently and consistently improve the quality of its campus.
Stakeholder engagement was impacted by pandemic lockdowns and JCB pivoted to online surveys and remote meetings to complete this essential phase of the project.
JCB has developed a holistic master plan which proposes a series of architectural and landscape key moves within and around the existing building footprints and is based upon maintaining the current student numbers.
The masterplan reinforces ‘The Quad’ as the heart of the campus linking the formal public façade to the north through to the social communal spaces to the south, with reinvigorated academic and recreational buildings and enhanced landscape spaces throughout.
