Nearing completion, Flinders House on the Mornington Peninsula (Bunurong Boon Wurrung Country) creates a generous and welcoming family home surrounded by farmland and the rugged coastline where Western Port meets Bass Strait.

The single-storey dwelling takes its design cues from the simple poetry of rural structures and sheds. Our clients have a genuine respect and understanding of the site, wanting their home to sit sensitively within its environment. The form tapers down on the southern facade, providing shelter from the prevailing winds and ensuring the building maintains a discrete presence within the landscape.

A robust and tactile material palette of stone, timber and steel create opportunities to celebrate material junctions and emphasise fine-grain detailing. Timber battens are made from messmate timber, the timber of Country, and bring natural variation and character to the façade.

Wrapping around central garden and sheltered courtyard, the home provides a warm gathering place to entertain extended family and friends. Large windows flood the interiors with an abundance of natural light, creating a sense of openness and connection to surrounding landscape from within.
