The University of Melbourne’s Dookie campus is an agricultural facility set on rolling hills between Shepparton and Benalla. The campus is home to the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences and holds enormous potential to create a centre of excellence for teaching, research and innovation, but its aged student accommodation presented an obstacle.
This feasibility project included workshopping the ideal room type and common area layouts to determine the most efficient configuration.
Five potential sites on campus were then investigated with infrastructure, climate and yield assessed. A shortlist of three sites (three options each) was further developed with yields and optimal configurations.
Massing options were developed into a comprehensive report based on benchmark optimal room mixes, while an analysis of site conditions and services was incorporated to inform the University’s decision-making process.
