The Abbotsford Convent is a unique site in the context of inner urban Melbourne. Its historical significance and status as a designated community precinct make it a valuable asset to the immediate neighbourhood and to the city as a whole.

The proposed master plan not only aimed to integrate both existing and potential facilities, but also envisaged a site that enhances the many cultural, social and leisure opportunities available to the community.

JCB’s approach carefully considered built form and existing movement patterns. The master plan sought to reveal forgotten spaces and edge conditions between buildings, and to investigate new circulation pathways which will integrate the precinct as a whole, suggesting a sense of journey.
