St Kilda Pier was announced as a winner of the Built Outcome Award at the 2026 Australian Urban Design Awards. We’re thrilled to receive this recognition with our project partners Site Office and AW Maritime, and for our client Parks Victoria.
Katherine Sundermann, chair of the awards steering committee, said the project reinforces “a simple idea: urban transformation works best when it involves diverse people, responds to the specifics of place, and improves places over time.”
Kelly Burke writes in The Guardian: “The St Kilda pier redevelopment adds a whimsical extension to the Port Philip Bay landmark that began its life as a simple timber jetty in the 1850s and converted into a functional concrete pier in the 1970s. The ageing infrastructure is replaced with a wider, curved design that balances heavy-duty engineering with the site’s role as a major tourist draw.”
The jury praised the project for its “layered embrace” of the bay, citing the project as “a rare example of how to balance coastal protection with recreation, and protecting the habitat for a colony of Little Penguins that have called the breakwater home for the past 50 years.”
