JCB was engaged by Monash University to undertake an extensive refurbishment of Building 50, first built in the 1970s. The new Monash Academics' Club caters for staff and guests at the University’s Clayton campus, and replaced the Monash Metro/business lounge.

The tired and unwelcoming facade of the original building has been opened up and invigorated, while the landscape interface has been enriched and improved. Together the refurbished building and landscape enhance the public realm at this important location immediately adjacent to the University’s historic Forum.

The project was delivered successfully with a modest budget and within a very tight timeframe. Spatial and circulation efficiencies have been improved, while a high-quality, multi-purpose meeting place has been created  for staff and guests to relax, meet, dine and work. The Club also includes a walk-up coffee bar and public cafe.
