St Andrew’s Hall in Parkville, Melbourne, is home to a training facility for the Church Missionary Society of Australia (CMS). The project will see the complete restoration of the original 19th century house, and the development of a new student accommodation and teaching building.
Responding to the ornate fretwork and detail of St Andrew’s Hall, the new development is wrapped in a geometric patterned metalwork screen. The screening serves as both solar control to the northern and western façade, and manages privacy to the development’s northern neighbours.
The overall development shows a considered and respective approach to the site’s heritage fabric, and will provide CMS ‘missionaries in training’ a welcoming and inclusive environment to share and enjoy as a student community.
