JCB delivered this significant master plan project with ASPECT Studios and Oculus for Lendlease. The existing historical maritime and industrial site sits between Victoria Harbour and the Yarra River, and covers a vast 500 metre long finger wharf that will become a dynamic extension of Collins St.
The master plan involved numerous stakeholder and council consultations, and is structured around key defining project strategies to generate a plan that responds to and is embedded in the city and local environment.
The proposal envisages a predominantly residential neighbourhood that offers a variety of housing typologies, further activated by small scale commercial spaces, community, dining and recreational facilities and public space.
Key strategies involving built form and scale, materiality, co-location, an open space structure plan and perimeter ‘recreational loop’ were critical in generating cultural and community connection, varied public realm experiences and healthy living.
From afar, the vision for the site plays on the idea of a dynamic and engaging built form silhouette that activates the skyline as a sculptural gesture.
