Currently under construction at 341 George St, this mixed-use development is shaped by its unique neighbourhood character and makes a positive contribution to the local community and streetscape. The name McLaren and Co recalls the original printing press that occupied the site for many decades.

Featuring seven levels plus basement car parking, bicycle parking and end of trip facilities, the building has been designed to capture views of the CBD skyline and Dandenong Ranges.

Comprising 17 apartments with a mix of 2, 3 or 4 bedroom configurations plus 2 half floor penthouses, each residence has been carefully curated, offering customisation through colour palette and floorplan layout. The lower levels incorporate flexible work spaces and shop fronts designed to activate the street.

The architecture preserves Fitzroy’s industrial heritage by restoring and rebuilding the original brick warehouse which will serve as a podium for the new building. The new upper levels reference Fitzroy’s past by expressing industrial materials in a contemporary way.

Three distinct layers form the architectural concept, designed to reduce the building’s mass. Floating above a brick podium is a steel and glass box featuring mesh screens for privacy and sun protection. Rising above the black box is a concrete structural frame which is light and recessive, intended to reduce visual bulk from the surrounding views.
